The Homestead is FROZEN

We don’t have a video, but I think I have a good excuse. It has been downright, positively TOO COLD TO FILM!! It hasn’t been over 32*F since Christmas, and seeing single digits on the thermometer has become pretty normal.

Plus, I don’t think Anna and I are too photogenic with umpteen layers of winter gear on.  Good grief, my sheep didn’t even recognize me the first time I went out to the barn looking like an overstuffed winter scarecrow.

So….I thought I’d give you a written update instead of a video since I can do that from the warmth of the house while drinking coffee.
All our animals have been handling this never-ending-arctic weather extremely well. The pigs have made themselves a huge, toasty hay nest and are sleeping the winter away, and the chickens and rabbits are happily munching all the extra feed we have been putting out. The cows are getting fatter, the goats are more than happy to stay in their shed, and the sheep don’t seem to know anything is different than usual.  BUT, the sheep are FINALLY using their calf hutch barn shelters!  I guess the weather finally became cold enough for them to bite the bullet and quit sleeping under the stars.

(If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out THIS VIDEO where my sheep are sleeping out in the snow.)

See! I even snapped a photo with my phone as proof!

Well, I need to go chop ice off the water buckets…again.

So till next week, keep warm and stay hydrated.

It SNOWED! ~ Winter Weather Barn Chores

Did it snow at your house last night?  It did here!  I’m just a big kid when it comes to snow. Even though it makes work around the farm a bit more challenging, I still absolutely love snow.

Anna and I made you a video this morning with all our grazing animals in the barns and enjoying the snow.  Well, most of them were enjoying the snow.  You will see that not all my darlings enjoy the snow as much as I do.

Enjoy!

Never Done Homestead Videos are BACK!

Hello from Never Done Homestead.

We are getting ready to slow down for the winter season after a super busy late summer/early fall.  But before winter officially starts, we thought we should try to get a video made before we missed the entire fall season.

I think because it has been three months since we made a video (naughty, naughty), our movie-making skills feel a bit rusty.  You will see what I mean when you watch the video below.
Oh, and fellow goat lovers, don’t panic about the lack of goats in this video.  I still have my (awesome) goats. They just aren’t on pasture any more as they have migrated to their warm winter quarters. Video on that coming soon!
Ok, enough random chatter…Here is the video:
Take care friends!

Homestead Cheese & Chores

We finally have another video for you!

In today’s video, Anna and I each grabbed a camera and filmed parts of our day. I wasn’t sure how this was going to turn out, but I think you are going to enjoy the end product.

Let me know what you think!
Talk to you soon!

Want To See Our Garden?

How is your summer going?  We have had an excellent summer so far.  Everything is growing like weeds.  Oh, and the weeds are growing like weeds, too.  Go figure!

Before I announce today’s video, I wanted to let you know we are almost sold out of our pastured chicken for September 16.  These are the last chickens for 2017, so don’t wait if you want to order!

Today’s video is a little different.  It has *almost* no animals in it.   Because ideally, you don’t want animals in the garden…

Yes, the video below is a garden tour.  Now if gardening isn’t your thing, you might want to skip this video.  But for those of you who are like me and love seeing your friends’ gardens, this just might be up your alley.

(SPOILER: There is a very short clip at the end with some really cute, NAUGHTY piglets!)

Ok, I’ll stop rambling! Take care friend!

Ever Tried To Wake A Milk Cow?

I bet you thought we fell off the face of the earth! We’ve had a lovely stretch of summer-like weather, and we ran with it. We had so much going on this week, we were only able to fit half of it in this video. So this movie should really be called part 1 of 2. 🙂

But before you go watch it, I have a quick announcement. We have added a third pick-up date for our pastured chicken. You can now order chicken for Sept. 9th. It’s not on the website yet, so you are the first to know about it!  Our July chicken is already sold out, so don’t miss out!

So without further ado, here is today’s video:

Take care,
Sarah

What Are We Using To Cut The Grass?

Happy Saturday!

Have you ever fallen for peer pressure? Yeah, me too!  And in this week’s video we fell for it again.  It seems like all the other homesteaders have posted videos this week of trying to use an old fashioned scythe.  So, we dug the scythe out of the barn.  And tried it out…on video.  🙂

Don’t forget! This Friday, June 2, is the last day to order Pastured chicken for June. Get all the details HERE!

Have an awesome weekend!
