Want To See Our Garden?

How is your summer going?  We have had an excellent summer so far.  Everything is growing like weeds.  Oh, and the weeds are growing like weeds, too.  Go figure!

Before I announce today’s video, I wanted to let you know we are almost sold out of our pastured chicken for September 16.  These are the last chickens for 2017, so don’t wait if you want to order!

Today’s video is a little different.  It has *almost* no animals in it.   Because ideally, you don’t want animals in the garden…

Yes, the video below is a garden tour.  Now if gardening isn’t your thing, you might want to skip this video.  But for those of you who are like me and love seeing your friends’ gardens, this just might be up your alley.

(SPOILER: There is a very short clip at the end with some really cute, NAUGHTY piglets!)

Ok, I’ll stop rambling! Take care friend!

  1. Wow! Your garden is HUGE! How do you provide water to your gardens? I know you’ve been getting plenty of rain, but I’m sure there are times you supplement. I just recently heard about using milk… they swear it works! You’ll have to keep us updated.

    1. We are blessed to have a really good well. It has never gone gone dry in the 26 years we’ve lived here. Last year when we had the long dry spell, we did stop irrigating for one week because the water’s flavor was changing, and we knew we were at a lower level than usual. Thankfully for the garden, it rained after that one week.

We also use water conserving practices like using soaker hoses vs. sprinklers, and we use heavy hay and straw mulch to keep the soil moisture from being evaporated away.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about spraying milk, too! I will keep you posted on the results.
